One of the future challenges that grid operators have to overcome in their network is the upcoming penetration of a changing mix of distributed energy resources of which a substantial part will be intermitting. Furthermore, they challenge an increasing demand for a reliable distribution network, with a decrease in planned or unplanned outages, customer minutes lost and interruptions as well as improvement in power quality and life extension of network assets. In order to overcome such challenges, network operators have to gain in-depth knowledge of their networks and deploy preventive and recovery measures to manage the outages.
