To solve future challenges we must migrate from a centralized to a decentralized way of thinking and implement distributed control, protection and management solutions that will continue to function even when parts of the grid become electrically stand alone. The ultimate goal is to prevent outages in the grid by extremely fast, short-circuit detection and switching.
